Jane Balke-Andersen known to many online as Queen Babs is a beautiful, inspiring yarnbombing artist who brightens the world with her colorful crochet and encouraging messages. Awhile back she created a crochet flower pattern called The Courage Flower for a long term crochet art project by Sabina Speich. She has now launched her own yarnbombing project for this same flower pattern.
About The Courage Flower
Jane explains on her website that she created the crochet pattern for The Courage Flower to contribute to Sabina’s “long term project for people with exhaustion, depression, anxiety or agoraphobia”. Sabina’s project includes flowers and granny squares. Jane encourages those who use this flower pattern for any reason to also consider creating and sending one to Sabina. Sabina herself used the pattern to send a flower to Jane who will be using it in her own yarn bomb. Jane reminds us, “With little kindnesses and reaching out to others we make the world a better place!”
The Courage Flower is a free crochet pattern written in English with translations into several other languages. It also includes a crochet symbol chart. This flower uses only basic crochet stitches and is a small 6-round project that works well with scrap yarn. Jane suggests, “Consider using contrasting colours to achieve the strongest effect.” But of course you can use the colors that appeal to you most.
About The Courage Yarnbomb
Jane shared the above on Instagram, letting people know the basics of how to contribute to this beautiful yarn bomb. The yarn bomb is a message of courage and a celebration of it. She’s already received some contributions; the ones in the image at the top of this post are by @bluecatcrochet and those below are from @suregal27. Participants are invited to send flowers from around the world.
