About this Crochet Book
This is a beginner crochet book with easy patterns that use basic stitches and simple shaping. The book begins with instructions for creating sweet small appliqués of flowers, leaves and butterflies. There is also information about the abbreviations used in the patterns (which are standard). I was surprised to see that there was no guide to how to crochet the basic stitches, but of course you can find this information easily online. I’ve never particularly thought that most crochet books need that section but it’s so common that I was just surprised to see it left off. Each crochet pattern includes the written instructions for both hat and matching booties along with any additional accessories (such as drawstrings, animal face details, etc.) The book has a section at the beginning explaining how to adapt the crochet hat patterns to fit different sizes from about eight months through adult size.
About the Crochet Patterns
These crochet patterns are themed with animals, foods and plants. For example, the book begins with a strawberry crochet set featuring a red hat with a little green stem at the top and matching strawberry shoes. Each design is the kind of pattern that a child would love to hold and look at.
Some of the crochet patterns in the book are worked similarly to others, with color changes and details making all of the difference in the final design. For example, the frog-inspired crochet hat and booties are worked very similarly to the strawberry set with changes at the brim for the hat and additions of details like eyes and tongue instead of leaves and stems.
However, not all of the crochet patterns are worked the same so you’ll have a chance to learn to make several different styles of baby hats and booties when working through the patterns in this crochet book. There are sixteen pairs of crochet patterns in this book for a total of more than 30 patterns.
