Marinke Slump was a beautiful, colorful, inspiring crochet designer who was at work on her second published book of patterns when she died by suicide last year. This book was a book of crochet mandala patterns, perfect for Wink who was a forerunner of bringing the mandala design into the world of crochet.
The book, published by Dover, was completed with the assistance of a second author, Anita Mundt, who includes a lovely message to Wink in the beginning of the work. About Crochet Mandalas Book
This book includes twenty crochet mandala patterns. These are not just beautiful wall art mandalas, although any of the patterns could certainly be used that way, but are functional mandala crochet patterns including patterns for mandala cushions, journal covers and warbles like a mandala shrug. The photos are beautiful hippie-inspired images that I’m sure Wink would love to have seen in print.

- Lovely yarn choices both in terms of color and fiber; I especially like the linen yarn selections!
- Variety of projects including different crafter levels, whole and motif based pieces and range of uses. Although most are, of course, mandalas, there are a few other pieces including star motif barefoot sandals and a granny motif vest.
- Wink’s style shines through in every one of her pieces. These are well complimented by the pieces Anita added to the collection.
