October 15th is I Love Yarn Day … and from now until then (just past then, actually) you have the opportunity to participate in a fun online scavenger hunt for an opportunity to win lots of great prizes. You answer 21 different questions through explorations of various websites throughout the yarn industry and you might be able to win yarn, magazines, books or video classes. You read that right – you might win things for looking at yarn online. You have a little over a month to enter and there are twenty different prizes up for grabs (totaling more than $1500 in value).
The scavenger hunt is just one fun activity planned in celebration of I Love Yarn Day. One primary goal of the event is to encourage everyone to “stitch it forward” by teaching at least one newbie to yarn-craft and experience its feel good benefits. Whether people prefer to knit it, crochet it, spin it, weave it or bomb it, the goal is for every yarn-crafter to share their know-how and love of yarn with someone new on October 15th. And then post it, tweet it, pin it and share it on social media with the hashtags #StitchItForward and #iloveyarnday to celebrate and motivate others to join in the fun! (from the press release)
The Craft Yarn Council will be publishing easy free beginner crochet patterns including new designs from a variety of crafters. I have designed a simple crochet cell phone cozy that I hope will be useful to people who want to teach others the basics of the craft or just create an instant gratification item for themselves in celebration of I Love Yarn Day. That will be published on the CYC site on or near I Love Yarn Day so keep an eye out for it.
